The SuperATV Can-Am Defender HD5 4" Portal Gear Lift adds ground clearance and a built-in 15% or 30% gear reduction so your Defender can turn bigger tires without overloading the drivetrain. Because the reduction sits in the hub, your axles, differential, prop shaft and transmission see less stress.

Choose cast or billet aluminum housings, and single or patented dual idler gears that spread the load over twice the gear surface. GDP uses precision-ground 9310 steel gears, sealed input gears, double-lipped output seals and double-angular contact output bearings to keep the portals sealed and quiet.

Tell us whether your Defender HD5 already has a big lift kit, since the steering arm setup differs.

SuperATV recommends a frame stiffener with portals and big tires. Add the SuperATV Can-Am Defender HD5 frame stiffener to reinforce the A-arm mounts before you install your portals.

FAQ

Is a portal gear lift better than a standard lift kit?

Portals add ground clearance and torque together by moving the gear reduction to the hub, while a lift kit only adds height.

Should I pick 15% or 30% gear reduction?

15% keeps more trail speed with added torque; 30% suits heavy loads, mud and bigger tires that need more low-end power.

What is a dual idler?

A second idler gear in the portal box spreads the load over twice as much gear surface for stronger, more reliable torque transfer.

What wheels do I need?

14-inch or larger wheels with no more than 4-1/2 inches of backspacing; dual beadlock wheels are not compatible.

Do I need a frame stiffener?

SuperATV recommends one, because portals and big tires add stress to the frame.

Why does the big lift kit option matter?

Machines with a big lift kit use a different steering arm and portal configuration, so pick the option that matches your Defender.
