The 2017.5-2020 Polaris RZR XP 1000 and XP Turbo still bend a factory tie rod before they bend anything else, and a bowed rod turns crisp steering into a wandering front end. This LM UTV Polaris RZR Steering Tie Rods (64in/Heim) kit swaps them for a 7075 Aircraft grade aluminum tie rod on 3 Piece Chromolly PTFE lined 5/8 Heim joints with a Heat treated 4340 Chromolly inner clevis.

Read the application line before you order. LM UTV states it plainly: NOT FOR THE RS1, use LMU-STR-01-02 for the RS1. This part number is the 2017.5 - 2020 XP 1000 and Turbo kit, listed as a Complete steering upgrade for the Polaris RZR and a Direct Bolt-on Replacement on the factory steering mounting points.

Built To Solve: Bent Tie Rods And Wandering Steering On The 2017.5-2020 Polaris RZR XP 1000 And Turbo

  • A factory rod that folds on a rock or a bad landing. It is the weakest element between the rack and the knuckle, so it absorbs the hit and keeps the damage.
  • The car hunting under throttle after an impact. A bent rod holds the wrong front toe on that corner and the RZR will not track straight.
  • Free play at the steering wheel. Worn OEM ends give up their preload; 3 Piece Chromolly PTFE lined 5/8 Heim joints are a rebuildable joint instead of a throwaway one.
  • Inner ends that keep failing where they meet the rack. The Heat treated 4340 Chromolly inner clevis replaces that failure point with heat treated steel.
  • Seized, corroded steering hardware at rebuild time. Heat treated 17-4 Stainless Steel hardware and spacers keep the joint serviceable.
  • Chewed inside tire edges on a car nobody has aligned since the hit. New rods only fix the geometry if toe gets set afterward.

Best For: 2017.5-2020 Polaris RZR XP 1000 And XP Turbo Owners — Not RS1 Owners

  • RS1 owners: this is not your kit. LM UTV states NOT FOR THE RS1, use LMU-STR-01-02 for the RS1. Order LMU-STR-01-02 instead, which covers all years of the RS1.
  • Owners of 2017.5, 2018, 2019 and 2020 Polaris RZR XP 1000 and RZR XP 4 1000 cars on the 64-inch chassis
  • Polaris RZR XP Turbo and RZR XP 4 Turbo owners in that same 2017.5 through 2020 window
  • Riders replacing a rod they have already bent, or getting ahead of it before a dune or desert trip
  • Builders who want a rebuildable heim joint and a heat treated steel inner clevis rather than sealed OEM ends
  • Anyone running a non-standard front width — Custom lengths available by request
  • If your XP 1000 or Turbo is a 2014-2017 car, use LMU-STR-01-02. If you are on a 2018 or newer Turbo S, the 72-inch tie rod kit is the correct part number.

Fitment

Fits 2017.5, 2018, 2019 and 2020 Polaris RZR XP 1000, RZR XP 4 1000, RZR XP Turbo and RZR XP 4 Turbo models on the 64-inch chassis. LM UTV states the fitment as: 2017.5 - 2020 Polaris RZR XP1000 / Turbo Steering Tie Rod Kit, NOT FOR THE RS1, use LMU-STR-01-02 for the RS1, Complete steering upgrade for the Polaris RZR. That exclusion is the important line on this page — the Polaris RZR RS1 does not take this kit at any model year, and RS1 owners need LMU-STR-01-02. Early 2017 XP 1000 and Turbo cars built before the 2017.5 change also belong on LMU-STR-01-02. Fitment is not guaranteed on applications not listed here.

FAQ

Will these tie rods fit my Polaris RZR RS1?

No. LM UTV is explicit about it: NOT FOR THE RS1, use LMU-STR-01-02 for the RS1. That applies to every RS1 model year. Order LMU-STR-01-02, which lists all years of the RS1 in its fitment.

My 2019 Polaris RZR XP Turbo wanders under power since a hard hit — is that the tie rods?

Very often it is. A bent tie rod changes front toe on that corner, so the car hunts under throttle and scrubs the inside edge of the front tire. Replacing both sides and then setting toe is what actually resets the geometry.

What causes the play I can feel at the steering wheel?

Worn factory tie rod ends. The OEM end is sealed and cannot be rebuilt, so the slop only increases. This kit uses 3 Piece Chromolly PTFE lined 5/8 Heim joints with Heat treated 17-4 Stainless Steel hardware and spacers, which come apart for service.

What is the kit made from?

A 7075 Aircraft grade aluminum tie rod, 3 Piece Chromolly PTFE lined 5/8 Heim joints, a Heat treated 4340 Chromolly inner clevis, and Heat treated 17-4 Stainless Steel hardware and spacers. Finish is machined finished or Type 3 Black Powder Coat.

Is any cutting, welding or drilling needed to install these?

No. LM UTV lists this kit as a Direct Bolt-on Replacement on the factory steering mounting points. Do both sides, then get a front alignment so toe is set with the new rods in place.

How does this compare to LMU-STR-01-02?

Same construction, different cars. LMU-STR-01-02 covers 2014 - 2017 Polaris RZR XP 1000 and Turbo plus all years of the RS1 and is offered in machined finished or Type 2 Black Powder Coat. This part number is the 2017.5 - 2020 XP 1000 and Turbo kit in machined finished or Type 3 Black Powder Coat, and it is NOT FOR THE RS1.

Upgrade The Steering On Your 2017.5-2020 Polaris RZR XP 1000 Or XP Turbo

Settle the fitment first. Confirm your XP 1000 or Turbo is a 2017.5 through 2020 car, and if you are on an RS1, stop here and order LMU-STR-01-02, because this kit is NOT FOR THE RS1. Then pick a finish, machined finished or Type 3 Black Powder Coat, and mention your setup if you need a non-standard size, since Custom lengths available by request. After install, get a front alignment so toe is set with the new rods on the car, and look at the parts that see the load next — the steering rack, the knuckles and the front ball joints. Spare 5/8 heim joints and stainless hardware are the companion items worth having before a long weekend out.
