FAQ

How do I know my Ranger 500 U-joint is bad?

A clunk when you shift between forward and reverse, vibration that rises with speed, rust dust at the caps, or play when you twist the shaft by hand are the usual signs.

What comes in the kit?

All Balls lists one u-joint and cap plug (per All Balls).

Which models does it fit?

All Balls lists Polaris Ranger 4x4 500 (1999, 2004); Polaris Ranger 6x6 500 (2004); Polaris Ranger Series 10 4x4 & 6x6 (2007).

Which position does it fit?

It depends on the machine. All Balls lists it for more than one position across its applications; the position for each machine is listed under Fitment.

Is installation difficult?

The drive shaft or axle comes out, the old U-joint caps are pressed out of the yokes and the new joint is pressed in and its snap rings fitted. A vise or press and your service manual are needed. All Balls does not publish an install sheet for this part.

Should I replace the U-joint or the whole drive shaft?

If the shaft is straight and the yokes are undamaged, a new U-joint is the low-cost fix. If the tube is bent or the yokes are worn, replace the shaft.
