KWI PD HD Float for Can-Am Defender HD11 & X3 135HP (PDrive)
⚠️ Important Installation Requirement:
This product requires you to send both your primary and secondary clutches to KWI for installation, as all machining and upgrades must be performed in their shop.
The KWI PD HD Float is a precision clutch upgrade designed to correct the common CVT issues found in 2025+ Can-Am Defender HD11 and base-model Can-Am X3 135HP (Turbo R) machines equipped with the BRP PDrive primary clutch. These machines often suffer from factory clutch misalignment, primary clutch drag, and premature roller wear, which can cause hard shifting, belt drag at idle, and frequent belt failures.
The PD HD Float system solves these issues by machining the secondary clutch to float, allowing it to automatically self-align with the primary clutch during operation. This improves belt tracking, reduces friction and heat, and restores smooth clutch engagement.
In addition to the floating secondary system, the service includes precision resurfacing of the clutch sheaves, KWI’s PD Update to correct primary clutch sticking issues, and a fresh set of OEM BRP primary rollers to ensure proper clutch operation.

Why the PD HD Float Matters
Fixes Factory Alignment Problems
The floating secondary clutch allows the system to self-align under load, eliminating the belt tracking issues that cause:
- Hard shifting
- Secondary clutch spin at idle
- Uneven belt wear
Eliminates Primary Clutch Sticking
The included PD Update addresses heat-related swelling inside the PDrive primary clutch that can cause it to stay engaged at idle.
Lower Belt Temperatures
Proper alignment and resurfaced sheaves allow the belt to make full contact with the clutch faces, reducing friction and heat buildup.
Improved Reliability
Combined upgrades help deliver:
- Smoother engagement
- Consistent RPM control
- Longer belt life
