Racing a Maverick R breaks axles that were never built for race loads. The Demon X-Treme Race Spec front axle answers that with a 300M shaft — an aircraft-grade alloy Demon describes as a modified, reinforced version of 4340 chromoly, with vanadium and higher silicon content added for strength and high-temperature oxidation resistance. It is designed to flex and absorb force rather than snap.

Demon states this is their strongest axle to date, built for heavy lifting, oversized tires and sustained abuse. The whole axle is 4340 chromoly through the shaft, housing, cage, race and balls on the X-Treme line, with the Race Spec shaft stepping up to 300M. Internal components are micro-polished so the CVs run cooler.

Key Features

  • 300M aircraft-grade alloy shaft — reinforced 4340 with vanadium and higher silicon content
  • Designed to flex and absorb force rather than fail under shock load
  • 4340 chromoly throughout the shaft, housing, cage, race and balls
  • Micro-polished internals so the CV joints run cooler
  • Re-engineered cage design for durability
  • Molybdenum grease for low friction and smooth motion
  • Superior resistance to high-temperature oxidation

Built To Solve: Race-Load Axle Failure On A Maverick R

  • Constant CV breakages under race and high-horsepower loads
  • Drivetrain failures that end a race weekend early
  • Axles that shatter instead of flexing when the suspension loads and unloads hard
  • CV heat build-up over long, fast desert stages
  • Oversized tires putting more torque through the driveline than stock shafts were designed for

Best For: Maverick R Racers And High-Horsepower Builds

  • Desert and short course racers running the Maverick R hard
  • High-horsepower builds putting more torque through the driveline than stock
  • Owners running oversized tires and heavier wheel packages
  • Riders who have broken heavy duty axles and need the next tier up
  • Owners who want a spare that will not be the weak link

Fitment

Demon lists this axle for 2024 Can-Am Maverick R, front left or right, sold each.

FAQ

What is 300M steel and why does it matter?

Demon describes 300M as an aircraft-grade alloy: a modified, reinforced version of 4340 chromoly with vanadium and a higher silicon content added. Vanadium raises the steel's strength, and the extra silicon adds hardness and resistance to high-temperature oxidation.

How is this different from the Heavy Duty axle?

The Heavy Duty line uses a dual heat treated chromoly shaft with a 4340 inner cage. The Race Spec steps the shaft up to 300M and runs 4340 through every component, with micro-polished internals. It is Demon's strongest axle.

Do I need this if I am not racing?

Not necessarily. If you ride hard but have not been breaking heavy duty axles, the Demon Heavy Duty axle is the sensible tier. Race Spec is for high-horsepower builds, oversized tires and race loads.

Is this one axle or a pair?

One axle, sold each. Order quantity two if you are replacing both sides.

Will it fit a long travel kit?

This is the standard-length Race Spec axle. Demon lists a separate long travel Race Spec version for machines running a long travel kit.

Does a stronger axle just move the failure elsewhere?

Demon designs the 300M shaft to flex and absorb force rather than transmit shock straight into the differential. Even so, check your carrier bearing, limit straps and diff condition when you upgrade — the driveline is a system.

Why Demon

Demon Powersports built this line through years of research and development, with the stated aim of a race-ready axle that does not burn a hole in your pocket. Their products go through extensive testing before launch, and the X-Treme range is what they put behind their own racers.

Complete Your Maverick R Front Driveline

Order quantity two to do both sides at once and keep a spare in the chase truck. Confirm your model year before ordering. While the front end is apart, check the carrier bearing, limit straps and differential — a stronger axle moves load into whatever is next weakest, so upgrading the shaft without checking the rest of the driveline is how people end up replacing a diff instead.
